Boy, 16, Shot After Arriving at Girlfriend's Apopka Home

Police say a 16-year-old boy was shot and suffered a non-life-threatening injury upon arriving at his girlfriend's Apopka home.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office tells local media that the unidentified boy arrived at the home Sunday afternoon and was met by his girlfriend's stepfather and his friend, both of whom were armed with shotguns.

Sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Paul Hopkins says the boy grabbed the barrel of the shotgun held by the stepfather's friend, 50-year-old Alvin Knight, and was shot after the teenager pointed the gun at his own face.

Authorities say the teenager is being treated for a graze wound to his head.

Hopkins says Knight has been arrested and will be charged with aggravated battery with a firearm. It was not immediately clear if he has hired an attorney.
