Boy Injured in Hit and Run in Miramar Speaks Out After Driver Surrenders

A seven-year-old boy who was injured in a hit and run in Miramar is speaking out a day after the driver turned himself in to police.

Jayden McFarlane spent four days at Joe Dimaggio Children’s Hospital recovering from his injuries suffered in the Nov. 20 incident.

The driver behind the wheel, 63-year-old Milton Walker, appeared in court Thursday, a day after surrendering to police. Police said he was driving the van that struck Jayden as he rode his bicycle in front of his home.

"It felt very good that he's in jail," Jayden said Thursday. "Because he run me over on purpose and just left me over there."

While Walker's attorney said he was remorseful, he's been charged with failure to stop and remain at an accident involving serious injury and failure to report information of an injured person.

Jayden's mother said it's been a rough few days but said Jayden's recovery is made that much sweeter knowing that the driver who allegedly hit him is now facing justice.

"It's out of my hands now, you did what you did and you didn't even take, you didn't even stop, slow down, nothing. Multiple cameras show you apparently weaving in and out of traffic so you couldn't have thought you hit a garbage can," mother Felissa McFarlane said.

McFarlane said she actually feels bad for the driver but has some peace of mind knowing that he's been charged.

"Something is obviously coming out of it and you know you left the scene of an accident, it could have been a fatal one at that so whatever the law does or is doing, I'm okay with it," she said.

Jayden's injuries were severe: A fractured collarbone, bruised heart, minor bleeding in the brain and a concussion. In an amazing recovery, he's back home now with just a sling on his arm. He also wants a new bike from Santa.

"He's worried about his bike but he's coming along. He's better," McFarlane said.
