Boynton Beach Police Shoot, Kill Suspect

Suspect fired at the officers, prompting the officers to fire back, police said

A suspect was killed and a police officer injured when they exchanged gunfire during an attempted traffic stop in Palm Beach County.

Boynton Beach police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater says the officer was treated and released from the hospital Tuesday evening.

The shooting happened shortly after officers tried to stop a vehicle matching the description of a getaway car in an armed robbery that happened earlier Tuesday in nearby Delray Beach. The officers tried to stop the car at 4:55 p.m.

Slater says the suspect refused to stop and officers continued pursuing the vehicle until it crashed into another car. The suspect then fired at the officers. Two officers shot back, killing him. One of the officers was struck by a bullet.

The name of the suspect has not been released.
