Broward College Supply Chain Management Students Getting Degree in 2 Years

Getting a bachelor’s degree is taking most students longer than four years to complete, but what if you could earn that bachelor’s in just about two years?

Broward College has just launched that program and it's in one of South Florida's hottest career fields.

One group of students will earn their bachelor’s in supply chain management in seven semesters. They’re learning how to purchase raw materials, get them through the manufacturing process and out to customers. As international trade continues to grow in South Florida, so does the demand for these skills.

"Supply chain management and global trade, logistics are huge pieces of our economy in South Florida mainly due to our geographical position, we’re close to the Caribbean, we’re close to South America, there are a lot of jobs in the industry here in South Florida," said Russ McCaffery, dean of transportation programs.

The program is designed for working students who just haven’t had the time or money to get a degree.

“The program gives me the flexibility to continue working and I do this on a Friday night and a Saturday. It does take away a little bit of my time, it’s a huge sacrifice but at the end of it I do have a degree," student Miguel Basanta said.

The program costs $10,000.

Broward College now offers 11 bachelor’s degree programs that cost under $10,000. The school says it would like to expand this fast bachelor’s degree to other fields once it measures the success of this program first.
