Broward County Is a Pill-Popper's Paradise

Broward County is suffering the pains of poorly regulated pill distribution

Oxycodone addicts know where to go for a dose of the highly addictive pain medication. It seems South Florida is now a pain-pill capitol in the U.S.

Lax regulation makes getting a prescription to oxycodone easy to come by in Broward County. Medical clinics setting up shop in old drive-thru fast food joints and rundown store fronts are all too willing to dish out doses with ads like “walk-ins welcome” and “dispensing on-site,” reports the Miami Herald.

Broward alone has some 89 pain clinics where pills are readily available to locals, out-of-towners, anyone with a prescription in need a of a fix.

The Herald goes on to say that, “45 South Florida doctors prescribed nine million doses of oxycodone in the last six months of 2008. Of the 50 doctors leading the nation in dishing out oxy, 33 come from Broward County. All 50 come from Florida.”

Businesses neighboring the clinics report shady activity, such as clients immediately selling pills within minutes of walking out of the door. This kind of poorly regulated distribution is making Broward a hotbed for pill poppers.
