Broward Sheriff's Sergeant Injured Following Attack by Driver During Stop

A Broward Sheriff’s sergeant was hospitalized after being assaulted by a man while conducting a traffic stop in Oakland Park Monday morning, officials said.

BSO says the sergeant was conducting the stop in the 200 block of Northwest 51st Court around 11:30 a.m. when he was hit by the suspect. That officer was transported to an area hospital with injuries to his head and face but was later released.

The suspect fled the scene, as officers from several agencies – including BSO departments from Oakland Park, Deerfield Beach and Pompano Beach – continued their search.

Authorities said the suspect, 24-year-old Tyler Comegno, was later taken into custody.

Comegno, who has nine prior arrests in Broward, cut off his ankle monitor after he fled, officials said. He faces multiple charges, including battery on an officer, resisting arrest without violence and aggrevated assault.
