Public school teachers in Broward County have agreed on a contract with the school district that will give them a modest bonus and help avoid unpaid furloughs.
The contract, the first reached between the two sides in three years, will give teachers a $500 bonus and keep them from taking furlough days.
The one-time bonuses will cost the district about $7 million, but will allow the district to receive $30 million in federal funding from the Race to the Top program.
Palm Beach schools reached a similar agreement in June.
