Brush Fire Closes Roads in Southwest Miami-Dade

Firefighters say a brush fire that broke out in southwest Miami-Dade Thursday is about 95 percent contained, but that it is still creating smokey conditions for motorists.

The fire was reported in the area of 167th Avenue and Southwest 56th Street.

About 400 acres had been consumed but no homes or businesses were affected, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said.

No injuries were reported. The Florida Forest Service also had units at the scene.

Officials said 167th Avenue from Miller to Southwest 47th Street was closed, as was Krome Avenue south of Tamiami Trail. Drivers were advised to avoid the area.
