Building Evacuated on Biscayne Boulevard For Bomb Threat: Police

Biscayne remains closed for several blocks north and south

A large building at NE 108th St. and Biscayne Boulevard was evacuated after a bomb threat Thursday afternoon, Miami-Dade Police said.

The Citibank building at 10800 Biscayne Blvd. was smoothly evacuated at about 2:15 p.m., evacuees said.

A man in the garage was acting strangely and told an employee that he had a bomb, and that employee called police. The police arrived to see him doing something suspicious in his car, and he told them that he had a bomb at the Biscayne building and in a home in Tamarac, according to witnesses.

He was taken into custody immediately without incident, police said.

The Broward Sheriff's Office confirmed just before 5 p.m. that they found no explosives in the Tamarac home on NW 82nd Street and cleared the scene.

Biscayne Boulevard remains closed for several blocks around the building, which is also called Bayshore Executive Plaza.

β€œWe have an emergency in the building but it’s under control,” building manager Ofer Rasluy told employees in the announcement telling them to get out, they said.

β€œWe just heard it was some crazy guy in the building, so we just ran,” one woman said.

At about 3:30 p.m. police were on pause while precautions were taken in the search for any suspicious packages. Just before 4 p.m. police sent a bomb-sniffing robot mounted with cameras into the parking garage, a witness said.

About 300 people work in the building, Rasluy said. Employees congregated outside, with some sitting in the grass.

The garage has six floors, and many employees have their cars parked inside it. Police told them that county buses would be able to give them transportation.

Police said it would be nightfall before the situation could be resolved.

Just before 6 p.m. police officers walked into the garage without protective gear.

Minutes later, shortly after the hour, police gave the all-clear. Employees began heading back into the building, and traffic resumed flowing in both directions on Biscayne Boulevard.
