C. Fla. Candidate Ends City Manager Bid Over Threats

A candidate for the city manager position in Mount Dora has withdrawn his name from consideration after receiving letters that threatened him and his family.

The Orlando Sentinel reports Mount Dora Planning and Zoning Director Mark Reggentin applied for the city's top post after 65-year-old Michael Quinn retired. On Tuesday, Reggentin informed Mayor Cathy Hoechst he wouldn't seek the job because the threats against his family left him ``greatly concerned.''

Police turned the letters over to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which is investigating. One letter concludes, ``Good luck. You will need it.''

The first letter appeared on Reggentin's desk at City Hall. Police Chief John O'Grady says the second letter mailed to Reggentin's home in Maitland was more personal and ``rose to the level of criminal.''
