Camera Catches Woman Kicking Dog in Elevator in Aventura

Keevonna Cante Wilson, 24, facing animal cruelty charge

A woman is facing an animal cruelty charge after police say she was caught on camera kicking a dog inside an elevator in a building in Aventura.

Keevonna Cante Wilson, 24, was arrested on Sept. 26 in the incident that happened at the Artech Condominiums on Northeast 188th Street, Aventura Police said Thursday.

According to police, a surveillance camera in one of the building's elevators captured Wilson repeatedly kicking and abusing a small dog on Sept. 20.

"This was a tiny little Yorkie Mix and it is an egregious crime, there is no excuse at all to do that to a small innocent animal, none," said Aventura Police Sgt. Chris Goranitis.

According to investigators, the dog may have had an accident, enraging its owner, who then vented her anger with the series of kicks.

Somebody at the building reported the video to animal control, which then contacted police.

"We were not able to speak to her, she chose not to speak with us but based on the video we found sufficient evidence to place her under arrest for animal cruelty," Goranitis said.

The dog was removed by Miami-Dade Animal Services Investigators and received medical treatment. The dog was later placed with a foster family.

Wilson was booked into jail and later released. Attorney information wasn't available.
