Car Plows 20 Feet Into Lauderhill House, Driver Flees

A car slammed into a Lauderhill house overnight, pushing a sleeping couple's bed 20 feet into the house before the driver took off.

According to Lauderhill Fire Rescue, the driver of a Honda Accord smashed through a fence and plowed into a home at Northwest 16th Street and 33rd Avenue overnight Thursday.

"It's unbelievable. You don't see this every day," said Jeff Levy with Lauderhill Fire.

Firefighters said the car came through a bedroom wall where a couple was asleep, hit their bed and pushed them through the home. The couple's 14-year-old daughter was asleep in the next room.

"I guess this is from the bricks flying and you know, when the car hit us and threw us in the air," said Kavis Bell, referring to the bruises on his face.

All three were taken to the hospital as a precaution, but are expected to be okay.

"I made sure I got my wife and daughter out. He [the driver] stumbled out behind us," Bell explained. He said he then watched the man run away, leaving his vehicle behind.

The driver is still on the run. Anyone with information is asked to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
