One Dead, Five Others Hospitalized from Carbon Monoxide in Wilton Manors

The Broward Sheriff's Office said carbon monoxide poisoning killed a father and sent five others to the hospital, after the family car was left running in the garage of their home in Wilton Manors.

Early Monday morning, Keith Moore and Mark Thompson were heading out to the gym when they noticed their neighbor’s garage door had been left open at 2259 Northeast Ninth Avenue.

Upon returning, the neighbors decided to check in on the Agro family. They knocked on the front door but there was no answer.

They walked into the garage and realized the door leading to the home was unlocked and the family’s 2015 Ford Escape SUV was running. They went inside the home and discovered Louis Agro on the floor near the door. They began CPR, turned off the car and called 911.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to the home. They pronounced Louis Agro dead at the scene. They found the victim’s wife, Regina Agro, unconscious on the second floor of their townhome. Their 11-year-old daughter, Sophia Agro, was unconscious on the third floor of the home.

Firefighters cleared the adjoining townhomes and found Kyle White and Michael Gutierrez unconscious in unit 2257, directly next door to the Agro’s home.

Regina Agro, Sophia Agro, White, Gutierrez and Moore were transported to Broward Health Medical Center to be treated for carbon monoxide poisoning.

Two dogs also died, and one cat was treated on the scene, as a result of exposure.

Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide detectives are investigating the death.
