Carjacking/Shooting Suspect Quiet in Court

Gregory Moore made his first appearance before a federal judge Thursday on federal carjacking charges, but had little to say.

The court appointed an attorney for Moore to make sure he understood the proceedings that were going on before moving forward.

Moore is accused of a crime spree Tuesday that included a series of armed carjackings and a double-shooting that left one person dead. Moore was arrested Wednesday afternoon by federal agents at a train station in West Palm Beach.

Outside of court, the family of Moore’s alleged accomplice, Johnathan Marion, said they were staying in prayer throughout the ordeal and that they were “sticking with him” in reference to Moore.

Moore’s alleged crime spree started just before 8 a.m. Tuesday. Police said he carjacked a woman and her son from the 1500 block of West Sunrise Boulevard and had them drive to I-95 where he ordered the woman and child out of the car.

The suspect then drove south on I-95 to Dania Beach, police said. The suspect then committed a second armed carjacking near I-95 and Griffin Road and fled south to Hallandale Beach.

Just after the second carjacking, two people were shot in the area of 217 E. Hallandale Beach Boulevard, police said. Hallandale Beach Police said the shootings were related to the carjackings and that the woman who was shot is the suspect’s girlfriend or ex-girlfriend.

A few hours later, the man died at a local hospital. The woman went through surgery late Tuesday afternoon and her last known condition was critical.

After a third carjacking at Pembroke Road and I-95, the suspect then fled northbound on I-95 and bailed out of the car near Broward Boulevard after crashing, police said.

That’s when the FBI said Marion began to help. Federal agents said Moore admitted to Marion he carjacked several cars. Moore also “admitted to shooting his ex-girlfriend and a man…stating ‘God help him, but that he hoped the Ex died.’”

Federal agents said Marion gave Moore, his cousin, a cell phone and a place to stay while the wanted man was on the run.

Moore and Marion both remain in federal custody in Broward County. Marion is scheduled to have a bond hearing next Tuesday and an arraignment on December 18th.
