Casey McGehee Off To Historic Start For Marlins

Casey McGehee has knocked in a MLB leading 10 RBI in five games for the Marlins

Casey McGehee currently leads all players in Major League Baseball with ten runs batted in. The third baseman for the Miami Marlins also set a franchise record on Friday.

McGehee's ten RBI are the most by a Marlins player in a season's first five games ever. Not only has McGehee secured that record, but he also currently has driven in more runs than three whole teams. The Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres have all scored less than ten runs on the season. The Padres are currently in Miami for a three game series and dropped the opener by a final of 8-2. McGehee also knocked in two runs in the game to keep pace with the Padres.

The third baseman is also almost one half of the way to matching the entire season's total compiled by Placido Polanco in 2013. Polanco who was the primary third baseman for Miami last season had 23 RBI all year long. The hot corner as a whole saw 44 RBI which is dismal for what is considered an offensive position in baseball. McGehee already tied the total triples hit by third baseman in 2013 with one and has three doubles as well.

While McGehee has now stayed atop the RBI mountain for MLB for a second consecutive day, he does have some competition creeping up on him. In second place with nine RBI is teammate Giancarlo Stanton and Diamondbacks' outfieilder Mark Trumbo. Stanton has picked up six runs batted in during his last three games and is unlikely to slow down anytime soon.

No Marlins player has ever led the league in RBI and McGehee is unlikely to change that but his hot start has helped propel Miami into first place with a 4-1 record.
