VID: Cashier Spoils Subway Robber's Dough Grab

Fast-acting worker leaves would-be robber with empty hands

A fast-acting Subway cashier thwarted a robber's reach for his dough during a bungled armed burglary in Southwest Ranches, police said.

The incident happened Tuesday evening at the fast food sandwich shop at 15691 Sheridan St., according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Police say the suspect was dressed in a green hoodie and sunglasses when he strolled into the store, walked up to the counter and pretended to order a sandwich.

A surveillance video of the incident shows the man patiently wait while the woman ahead of him pays for her meal. But when the cashier opens the register, the man whips out a handgun and demands money.

The quick-thinking cashier pulls the money drawer out of the register as if he's about to hand it over, but as the robber reaches for the cash, the cashier bolts into the back of the store with the money.

The robber was forced to leave the store empty handed.

BSO said the suspect, identified as a man in his early 20s, 5-feet-3 and 150 pounds, may have also robbed a Little Ceasar's Pizza in the same neighborhood.

Anyone with information on the robberies is asked to call Crimestoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
