Cassidy Due in Court on DUI Charges

Former teen idol scheduled for hearing in St. Lucie County

Former teen idol and "Partridge Family" star David Cassidy is expected to appear in a St. Lucie County court Tuesday to face charges related to his DUI arrest last November.

The 60-year-old star is facing DUI, failure to maintain a single lane, and having an open container charges related to the Nov. 3, 2010 arrest in Fort Pierce.

A highway trooper spotted Cassidy's white Mercedes weaving on the Florida turnpike just after 6 p.m. According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Cassidy's car was seen drifting into the shoulder of the highway twice before merging into a lane and nearly hitting another car.

When he was stopped, Cassidy, who lives in Fort Lauderdale, told the officer he'd had a glass of wine around lunchtime and that he was on prescription medication and had taken a hydrocodone three hours later, according to the report.

But when the trooper approached the car, he "could smell a slight odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage come from the defendant's mouth," according to the report. The trooper found a half-empty bottle of Woodford Reserve Kentucky Bourbon during a search of the car.

Cassidy registered a .139 and .141 in alcohol breath tests, nearly twice the .08 legal limit in Florida. Cassidy was "unsteady on his feet" and failed several sobriety tests, according to the FHP report.

Cassidy was booked into jail and later released.
