Central Florida Man Sentenced to 2 Life Terms in Kidnapping Case

A central Florida man was sentenced to two counts of life in prison for kidnapping, burglarizing and seriously injuring a food delivery driver.

Jurors found 23-year-old Guiseppe Verdone Jr. guilty June 18 and Circuit Judge J. David Walsh sentenced him on Wednesday. He was also given 30 years in prison on a robbery conviction.

Prosecutors say on Nov. 2, 2013, Verdone called King Palace and placed a delivery order. When 43-year-old driver Ming Gong showed up with the food, Verdone attacked him with a stun gun, handcuffed him and drove him around town.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports Verdone wanted Gong's car to go to Virginia. Gong escaped by jumping from the car. He severely injured his head and nearly died.

Verdone was arrested in South Carolina.
