Charges Dropped in 2014 Homestead Bar Shooting

Prosecutors have dropped all charges against a man accused of shooting up a Homestead bar more than two years ago.

Leon Hillman was in court Tuesday where he learned he was off the hook for attempted murder charges in the June 2014 shooting at Grumpy's Bar on Southwest 152nd Avenue.

Surveillance cameras showed the gunman run up to the bar with a rifle and open fire, scattering the bar's patrons. Three people were injured in the shooting.

But Hillman's attorney, Alex Michael, said police got the wrong man. Prosecutors said an alleged victim repeatedly changed his story and became uncooperative in the criminal case.

If convicted on the charges Hillman would have faced a minimum sentence of 75 years in state prison.

"He's going to be released today and is going to move out of state and start a new life," Michael said.
