A man was hauled away to jail following a police chase that started in Medley and came to a screeching halt in Hialeah Sunday evening.

The incident began when a Medley officer spotted a Chrysler 300, believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run crash, traveling in an erratic manner with no license plate down Okeechobee Road, police said.

When the officer attempted to stop the car, the driver allegedly kept going and a chase ensued. It ended when the car crashed in the area of W. 18th Avenue and 37th Street.

"[Doesn't] happen everyday you know. Big crash," said Alejandro Jesus, who saw the car slam into a lightpost in the area.

The three people inside the car bailed out and one of them was caught a couple blocks away. The other two were caught inside a nearby Target store.

"With the cameras in the store they were able to detect them, and were able to find them," Romina, a customer who saw the commotion, said in Spanish.

The driver of the car, who wasn't identified, was arrested and could be charged with reckless driving, Medley Police said. The other two were questioned and let go.

Charges from the Hialeah Police Department are also pending.
