Church Volunteer Murdered in Pompano

Man who devoted time to less fortunate found killed in home

Police are looking for answers after a man who devoted his time to ministering to the homeless was found dead inside his Pompano Beach home.

The body of Dave Montney, 59, was found inside his house at 2400 Northeast 10 Court on Friday after concerned neighbors who hadn't seen him for a few days called 911.

Montney's black 2002 Volkswagen Beetle was found abandoned in the 2400 block of Hammondville Rd., Broward Sheriff's Office detectives said.

Montney had devoted much of his life to helping the less fortunate, working at Holy Cross Hospital and staying very involved at Christ Church United Methodist in Fort Lauderdale.

"He was very loyal and dependable, and cared deeply about helping others," said Executive Pastor Alex Shanks. "The church is deeply saddened about what has taken place."

Police are asking anyone with information to call Broward CrimeStoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
