Firing gunshots into the air to celebrate the New Year can be deadly. The City of Miami is reminding the public of how dangerous the activity can be.
“As every year, we’re saying loud and clear: criminal activity will not be tolerated,” said Audrey Edmonson, the Vice Chairwoman of the Miami-Dade County Commission.
City and county law enforcement officials gathered Thursday to get the message out to put the gun down.
“Families are hurting from senseless gun violence that is taking the lives of too many of our children, the residents in this community,” said Francis Suarez, the Mayor of the city of Miami.
Just this week alone, several shootings happened. City and county officials have worked hard to have a shot spotter to cover 80 percent of the area. Shot spotter locates anyone who shoots a gun in the air or at someone.
“If you shoot a gun in the air, we will find you, we will identify where you are and you will be held responsible,” said Suarez.
