City of Miami Closes 2 Parks After Presence of Some Contamination Found

Billy Rolle Mini-Park and South Side Park have been closed after the presence of some contamination was found in them, the City of Miami said Monday.

The contamination was revealed by recent sampling at Billy Rolle Mini-Park, on Grand Avenue in Coconut Grove, and South Side Park, on Southwest 2nd Avenue and 12th Street.

β€œThe parks are being closed until further sampling can be performed and necessary actions are identified,” the city said in a news release.

A city spokesman could not be reached Monday for further details on how the parks were contaminated.

The city said it is working closely with the Department of Environmental Resource Management and the Florida Department of Health as further testing is done and plans are developed for permanent remedies.

Three other Miami parks, including Merrie Christmas Park in Coconut Grove and Douglas and Blanche parks, were closed in recent months due to contamination. The city then ordered testing at all of its parks.
