15 Cuban migrants were repatriated back to Cuba on Saturday.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, they found the migrants Wednesday while on patrol about 65 miles southeast of the Dry Tortugas.
“Illegal migrant ventures at sea are both risky and dangerous,” said Commander Willie Carmichael, the deputy chief of enforcement for the Coast Guard’s 7th district.
The Coast Guard says about 31 Cuban migrants have tried to illegally migrate to the U.S. by water since the beginning of the 2018 fiscal year, which started October 1. That number is compared to 1,934 Cuban migrants during 2017’s fiscal year.
The migrants were repatriated to Bahia de Cabañas in Cuba.
