Convicted Felon Faces New Charges in Recent Miami Crimes

A convicted murderer and gang member, who was arrested for allegedly entering a Liberty City market with a rifle and threatening those inside, appeared before a judge Monday.

"You were arrested for home invasion robbery with a firearm, burglary with an assault or battery while armed," the judge said during the hearing.

Willie Wilcher, 36, listened to a new list of criminal charges he faces.

Detectives said Wilcher, aka Peewee, brandished an AK-47 and was caught on camera at a City Market store at 1274 Northwest 62nd Street.

Miami and Miami-Dade Police Departments held a joint press conference over the weekend announcing Wilcher's arrest. Police officers were looking for him for two alleged crimes. The robbery in Liberty City, and a home invasion in Miami-Dade near 18th Avenue and 70th Street.

Detectives have linked Wilcher to gang activity. He has an extensive criminal record with 11 felony charges including attempted first-degree murder, kidnapping and aggravated battery.

"Peewee spent 18 years in prison for his association with the John Doe Boys. He was released and came back to wreak more havoc," said Chief Rodolfo Llanes with Miami Police.

Wilcher was released from state prison two years ago. The community he came back to, along with the video, worked together to catch Wilcher and put him behind bars once again.

It's unknown whether Wilcher has an attorney.
