A Cooper City family watched through a home surveillance app as a burglar ransacked their home in the middle of the day.

Christopher Hayle, who has a wife and two young daughters, said he feels "violated" by the incident.

Hayle said the burglar triggered the alarm because he pried open a window, which he couldn't break because it was an impact window.

Video shows the burglar frantically attempting to steal what he can before his escape.

"You know these guys. They know that even if you have an alarm, it takes a couple of minutes for the police to get there," Hayle said.

Police arrived minutes later with weapons drawn, but the burglar was long gone.

Neighbors said security issues began when a privacy wall was lowered in September between a shopping center and their backyards.

Whatever the reason, the family does not feel safe. Hayle said one of his daughters is afraid to go to sleep.
