Court Won't Review Ex-FBI Agent's Murder Conviction

The Florida Supreme Court will not review the murder conviction of a former FBI agent in a decades-old case linked to imprisoned New England mob boss James "Whitey'' Bulger.

The court declined Tuesday to hear appeals of ex-agent John Connolly. He was convicted of second-degree murder in 2008 in the 1982 slaying of World Jai-Alai President John Callahan. Testimony showed Connolly tipped Bulger and his cohorts that Callahan intended to implicate them in another killing.

Connolly's appeal hinged on whether he could be convicted of murder with a firearm even though he was 1,500 miles away in Boston at the time. The 3rd District Court of Appeal first sided with Connolly, then reversed itself last year and upheld his conviction.

Bulger is serving a life prison sentence for multiple crimes.
