A man was airlifted to a local hospital after a bad crash snarled traffic on a section of Interstate 75 in Broward County Friday afternoon.
The crash happened around 2 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-75 near Royal Palm Boulevard, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue officials said.
Officials said the driver of a four-door car hit the back of a fuel tanker truck. Footage showed the badly damaged car partially underneath the back end of the tanker truck with several fire rescue crews at the scene.
The man who was injured, who is believed to be in his 50s, was airlifted to Broward Health in Fort Lauderdale with life threatening injuries, officials said. The crash was so severe that it required the "Jaws of Life" to remove him from the car, officials said.
The crash had all southbound lanes shut down while an air rescue helicopter landed to transport the victim to the hospital. All lanes were reopened by 6:30 p.m.
The Florida Highway Patrol will be investigating the cause of the crash.
