Crook Goes on Shopping Spree After Stealing Woman's Purse

A woman is speaking out about her financial nightmare. She says a thief went on a shopping spree with her hard earned money after he stole her purse. The thief snatched her belongings after she left them in a car unattended.

Miami Police say cameras caught the suspect swiping the stolen credit card from a Walgreens on Northwest 7th Street. The victim told NBC 6 that wasn’t the only place.

The victim, who didn’t want to be identified, told NBC 6 that she took her son to the Merrie Christmas Park in November. She said the incident happened while she stood about 10 feet away from her car.

“Somehow they popped my window and took the purse,” said the victim.

They also managed to rack up several hundred dollars in charges.

It’s an unfortunate reminder about how quickly thieves can strike when valuables are left in the car.

“I’m from a Latin American country where that happens a lot so I should’ve known better,” said the victim.

Last month, police arrested two people for allegedly breaking into several cars in Coral Gables in one night.

Detectives are now trying to identify the man in this crime.

“They went to Office Depot, they went to Walgreens and they went to, I think, a Marathon gas station,” said the victim. “I’m feeling terrible, it’s a great sense of violation.

She said a Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden employee eventually found her purse on their property and contacted her.

The victim gave them $100 as a reward. She later learned that the employee donated that reward to the garden.

“On one hand, there are a lot of bad people. But then, in the same experience, you get to meet wonderful people,” said the victim.

Police said the man drove a white 4-door car.

Police are urging anyone with information to call Miami Police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
