Elderly Bank Customer in Critical After Robbery

Man robs the AmTrust bank in Deerfield BEach

Broward Sheriff's deputies are on the hunt for a man who allegedly tried to rob a Deerfield Beach bank and shot a customer Wednesday afternoon.

The robbery happened at AmTrust Bank around 3:30 p.m., where witnesses say a Hispanic male rushed into the bank's lobby. At some point, the man opened fire and one of the bullets struck an elderly bank customer in the chest.

The whole shocking incident was caught on camera.

The suspect fled the scene and fired at least two more shots that went through the windows of a nearby tax office. Witnesses also said the man was dropping money as he ran down the street.

"Our customer is leaving and we saw this guy running with a black shirt and a black hat and running like crazy, and we hear more shots," employee Camila Miranda said.  "It was pretty intense. We remember that all our customers just started yelling 'call 911! Lock the doors!'"

The suspect is a white/latin male, about 5'8" in height, with salt and pepper hair. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, black shirt and blue jeans, BSO said.

The wounded customer was taken to the hospital but is expected to recover from his injuries.
