Two words: Baby. Hippo.
A male pygmy hippo that was born on Aug. 4 made his public debut at Zoo Miami this week.
He hasn't been named yet, but zoo officials say he already seems to have no trouble at all navigating the pool and exhibit.
"In very little time, he was swimming quite well and soon started to jump and dive freely, seeming to thoroughly enjoy his new surroundings!" Zoo Miami officials say.
The baby and his mother will have access to the exhibit every day from around 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. As he becomes more comfortable and independent, then he and his mother will gradually spend longer periods of time in the exhibit.
This is only the second pygmy hippo birth in Zoo Miami’s history, with the last one being born in 2010.
