‘Life of the Party': Pregnant Mom's Body Found at Homestead Park

Family members identified the woman as 21-year-old Kerica Nelson

Police are investigating after the body of a pregnant woman was found in the park area of a Homestead neighborhood Wednesday morning.

Miami-Dade Police investigators responded to the park near Southwest 282nd Street and 125th Court after receiving calls of a body being found near the location.

The body was reportedly found by children who were on their way to school. First responders arrived at the scene and found the woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Family members identified the woman as 21-year-old Kerica Nelson, who they said was seven months pregnant and leaves behind two children.

"She was the life of the party, she was a wonderful person, she left two beautiful kids," godmother Elvara Miller said. "We just seen her a couple hours ago and now she’s gone, she’s gone, she’s gone, her children lost their mother."

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.

"If anybody has seen anything or heard anything, please come forth, do not let a person be out here committing crimes like this," Miller said. "They need to be arrested or punished for what they've done. She didn't deserve that."
