Police: Early Morning Crash Involving Stolen Car Kills Three, Causes Turnpike Closure in Broward

A fatal early morning crash involving what officers say was a stolen car had the Florida’s Turnpike closed northbound in Broward County as officials investigated the scene.

Officials say that two men were killed at the scene after the single-car crash at the toll booths just north of Commercial Boulevard around 2:30 a.m. Two other men were rushed to the hospital, where one died and the other remains in critical condition.

"The vehicle entered the toll booth area and lost control, slid sideways into the crash continuator and then overturned over the top of the toll booth plaza - which took out the air conditioning unit," said Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky.

Wysocky said all four passengers were ejected from the vehicle - including one who ended up in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike - adding that no workers were hurt and they are investigating to determine what factors, including speed, played a role in the crash.

As a result, both the on-ramp from Commercial Blvd. and the main northbound lanes remained closed for over six hours. The Sunpass lanes have since reopened, but the toll booths remain closed.

UPDATE: The victims have been identified as 18-year-old Yostein L. Martinez; 17-year-old Matthew Farid Bryan; and 18-year-old Kevin Farid Bryan. Cesar O Pina, 19, is in critical condition.
