Deputies Find Father of Young Girl Seen Trying to Cross Highway

Deputies said the girl's father was asleep.

Deputies have arrested a young girl's father on charges of child neglect after she was seen found to cross a six-lane highway alone in West Palm Beach.

The Palm Beach Sheriff's Office said a Bank of America employee saw the girl trying to cross Military Trail near Westgate Avenue and Elmhurst Road Wednesday just after 3:30 p.m.

Officials said that after an extensive search, deputies found the girl's house where her father was asleep.

Deputies said they walked from street to street in the area where the girl was found and a neighbor was able to tell them where the girl lived. That's where they found the girl's father asleep, according to authorities.

The father said he never knew the child was missing, deputies said.

The Department of Children and Families took possession of the girl and her two siblings.
