Deputy in Shooting Previously Investigated for Use-of-Force

Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office records show a deputy who fatally shot a 19-year-old man during a traffic stop has been the subject of at least 15 use-of-force investigations.

According to the records released to The Palm Beach Post, Deputy Andrew Cano was cleared each time. Prosecutors will decide whether to charge Cano in Henry Bennett's death on Jan. 16.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Teri Barbera says Cano, 23, was reassigned and resumed work 10 days after the Jan. 16 shooting in Belle Glade that left Henry Bennett dead.

Sheriff's officials say Bennett fled and pointed a gun at Cano. Prosecutors will decide whether to charge Cano in Bennett's death.

Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association President John Kazanjian says it's not surprising that Cano was involved in so many use-of-force investigations because crime is more prevalent in the Belle Glade area where Cano worked.
