Designer Eyeglasses Shop Burglarized in Coral Gables: Police

Coral Gables Police are looking for thieves with an eye for high-class merchandise. They said the pair made off with tens of thousands of dollars in designer eyeglasses.

"You feel completely violated, someone has invaded your space and taken what you worked so hard for," said the owner of I Designs, Helena Ulloa.

It's been just over two weeks since the owners of the eyeglasses store, located on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables, experienced an apparent burglary on Aug. 20.

"At 3 a.m. I got a call from the alarm company that there was a break-in. By the time I got here, the police were already here," Ulloa said.

The crime was caught on surveillance video, showing the suspects using a sledge hammer to get inside. Ulloa said the sledge hammer was left behind and is now in the hands of police to be processed as evidence.

"I think they knew where they were going. They bee-lined for the particular brands, know where they were and passed ones they weren't interested in," Ulloa explained.

Sunglasses brands such as Prada, Cavalli and Tom Ford were reported missing, along with several pairs from Ulloa's private label. She estimates the store took a $50,000 wholesale hit and a retail hit of around $100,000.

"I'm afraid that the minute I restock, they will come back," Ulloa expressed.

If you know anything about this case, you're urged to call police immediately.
