Divers Save Frisbee-Wearing Shark

Two Palm Beach divers film an impromptu shark rescue

Sharks can't seem to stay out of the news these days.

When they aren't biting off swimmers limbs or terrorizing beach goers, the top sea predators appear to like to spend their time playing underwater Frisbee.

Video evidence of shark play surfaced earlier this week when two divers in Palm Beach came across a shark that had a pink ring lodged around its neck. The shark didn't seem to mind too much, but the divers took action anyway.

Chip Garber swam behind the shark and grabbed it along with the ring in an effort to free the animal or maybe to get back one of his childhood favorite toys.

John Dickinson, the bright one of the two, manned the camera and filmed the rescue effort.

"Out of the corner of my eye I saw Chip approach from behind and grab the shark," he said. "My initial reaction was 'Oh boy. Here we go again'"

The last report of a person trying to help a shark in the water didn't end quite as pleasantly.

The rescue was a success and after a little thrashing, the shark swam away no worse from the encounter, although there may be a bull shark somewhere wondering where his Frisbee is.

"I couldn't be happier how it turned out. Everybody came back with all their appendages and it worked out good," Garber said.
