A dog that was left abandoned on a South Florida street after being shot by a BB gun is recovering, but may need to have his leg amputated after an infection started to eat away at his skin and muscle.

“We need to find whoever did this to Parker,” said Maria Gaspari, a veterinarian who took Parker in after he was found limping on a Broward County street.

Gaspari, who is part of the Bullies-N-Beyond Rescue organization, worked to remove multiple BBs from Parker’s leg. She wrapped his leg up in a protective bandage and took it upon herself to advocate for the injured animal.

“It’s very important for us that if the community sees something, to say something,” she said. “Just contact us because we need to find whoever did this to Parker.”

Parker was taken to the Biscayne Animal Hospital for treatment. After veterinarians ran a series of tests and X-rays, they found he may need to have his leg amputated.

Veterinarians say Parker will be okay in the long run, but Gaspari is waiting on bloodwork to see if he will need to have his leg amputated.

Bullies-N-Beyond Rescue posted photos of Parker on their Facebook page. They say that Parker is taking the incident in stride.

“Despite his pain, we received nothing but tail wags from this boy,” the organization said.

Gaspare says in addition to finding the person responsible for the crime, they are also looking for a loving home for Parker.

Bullies-N-Beyond Rescue is urging anyone with information about the incident to speak out.

“Be his voice!! You can remain anonymous,” the post reads.
