Over fifty dogs rescued from the Bahamas Humane Society after Hurricane Dorian arrived in West Palm Beach Monday morning.
The Loxahatchee-based Big Dog Ranch Rescue organized the effort while dropping off hurricane relief supplies over the weekend.
On Saturday morning, a private flight filled with food, medical supplies, and crates arrived in Nassau. Two days later, a 240-foot yacht named Laurel was generously donated, and the dogs were on their way to Rybovich Marina.
"They’ve been cleaning up the cages and stuff every day, and we’ve been walking them around the boat every day as well," Wikus Botes, chief officer, on board the Laurel told WPTV.
The group says the rescues were separated from their owners in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian.
"They’re in need and they’re defenseless," said Debbie Hilton with Big Dog Ranch Rescue.
The dogs will be quarantined and eventually reunited with their owners in Florida. The remaining rescues will be available for adoption in two weeks.
