The Miami Dolphins needed a win and instead ended up with a lopsided loss when the New York Jets took Sunday's game 38-20.

The loss dropped Miami to 4-7 on the season and completed a sweep by the Jets. The Dolphins had already been swept by the Buffalo Bills earlier this year, and will face another potential sweep by the Patriots later this season.

While even running the table would have made the playoffs only a possibility, now that goal becomes nearly impossible. Miami has an awful 0-5 record in the division and one of the worst records in the AFC overall.

Ryan Tannehill threw early and often in the loss to the tune of 58 passes overall. Miami's quarterback completed 33 of those for 351 yards. Tannehill was picked off once and threw three touchdowns including two in the final minutes with the game out of reach.

The busy day for Tannehill showed in Miami's rushing statistics. As a team, Miami only had 12 yards rushing in the game. The Dolphins only tried to run the ball nine times and the longest went for five yards.

An old friend made it look easy against Miami as Brandon Marshall caught nine passes for 131 yards. The former Miami player brought in two touchdowns as well. One of Marshall's catches was good for 47 yards and he outplayed Brent Grimes multiple times.

On top of the poor play, Miami also suffered two key injuries during the game. Mike Pouncey was carted off with a foot injury while Rishard Matthews left early with chest and rib ailments.

The Dolphins will host the Baltimore Ravens next Sunday at Sun Life Stadium.
