Dolphins Game Preview: Week 13 vs. Broncos

Jay Cutler will lead the reeling Dolphins into a matchup with the Broncos on Sunday

The reeling Miami Dolphins will host the 3-8 Denver Broncos on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium.

Miami has dropped five games in a row, while Denver has lost seven straight. Both teams have been disappointments this season and have battled injury problems along the way. The Broncos have yet to win a game on the road in 2017, while the Dolphins are 2-3 in their home building.

After being in the concussion protocol last week, Jay Cutler will return to the field in this contest. Cutler has been inconsistent this season and has been unpopular with the home crowd. There could be some more jeers in this one, especially if Cutler gets off to a slow start. Cutler's backup Matt Moore, has not had a productive season himself however. Moore is 0-2 in his two starts this season and has tallied five interceptions.

Without a reliable running game, Miami's quarterbacks have had their work cut out for them this season. That should be a continuing theme in this one, as Kenyan Drake will be Miami's primary running back. Drake is inexperienced and Denver has the second-best defense in the league. The Dolphins are working without much depth in their ground game and Drake could have a long day.

Cutler started his career in Denver, before moving on to Chicago. The Broncos used their first round pick in the 2006 draft to grab Cutler and he only lasted three seasons there. While Cutler had some productive moments, he failed to live up to the hype surrounding his first-round selection. Cutler ended up requesting a trade in 2009 and the Broncos gave him his wish.

Miami head coach Adam Gase also has ties to Denver, though he arrived a year after Cutler had exited. Gase spent several years on Denver's sideline and was considered an asset to the team. Gase and Cutler would eventually link up in Chicago, before joining forces again this season in Miami.

The Dolphins have a tough schedule the rest of the way and a playoff run is considered unlikely. If Miami wins every game remaining however, it may have a chance of reaching the postseason. This game against lowly Denver could be Miami's best chance for a win the rest of the way.

Sunday's kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
