Dolphins Lose to Jaguars on Late Field Goal

The Jaguars hit a game-winning field goal with only 40 seconds left in the game to beat Miami

The Miami Dolphins suffered their first loss of the season as the Jacksonville Jaguars came away 23-20 winners on Sunday.

After being backed into their own end zone late in the fourth quarter, Miami was forced to punt the ball away. The Jaguars would drive up the field with the aid of a costly personal foul against Olivier Vernon. The 15-yard penalty put Jacksonville into field goal range and also allowed the team to run off most of the clock. Miami would fail on their last minute try to tie the game.

Miami which is usually known for its good discipline was penalized early and often in the loss. In all, the Dolphins had 13 flags thrown against them which all told added up to 112 yards.

Much like last week, the Dolphins struggled defensively out of the gate. Jacksonville scored a quick touchdown and added a field goal a short while after. By the end of one quarter, the Jaguars held a 10-3 advantage. Miami's lone scoring drive almost ended early when a Jaguars defender deflected a pass.

The second quarter was a positive turn of events for Miami as it matched Jacksonville with ten points in the quarter. The defense came up with some important stops, and Tannehill had a strong showing. Miami's QB was his usual accurate self throughout most of the first half.

In the third quarter, Miami scored quickly to tie the game at 20. The teams would then go on to exchange possession multiple times for the rest of the quarter. Miami's defense looked very strong in the third quarter which led to Jacksonville having virtually no yards gained.

After only compiling two tackles last week, Ndamukong Suh had a slow day again with only one tackle in this one. Suh who signed a big contract in the off-season briefly left the game in the second quarter with an unspecified injury. Suh would walk off under his own power and returned shortly after without any apparent lingering problem. The veteran has not recorded a sack thus far through two games.

The Dolphins will head home for the first time this season when they host the Buffalo Bills next Sunday at 4:25 p.m.
