Dolphins' McMillan and Aikens Injured in Preseason Opener

The Dolphins lost a pair of defensive players in Thursday's preseason opening game

The Miami Dolphins had Raekwon McMillan and Walt Aikens go down with injuries in Thursday's preseason game.

McMillan suffered a knee injury during a punt return and never had the opportunity to play defense against the Atlanta Falcons. Miami has a lot of optimism surrounding McMillan and will have to hope the injury is not a major one. The rookie was able to walk off the field under his own power, which is an encouraging sign.

Miami drafted McMillan out of Ohio State in the second round of the NFL draft and he is pegged to see some big minutes during the regular season. The linebacker is listed as a starter on the current depth chart for the team, but that could change during these four weeks of preseason action.

Aikens had his back tighten up on him during warm-ups before the game and was ruled out due to that. The injury is not considered serious, but the defensive back missed out on some valuable playing time in the game. Aikens should be back out there for next week's game.

Aikens is entering his fourth season with the Dolphins and has 51 tackles in his career. The 26-year old also has collected one interception in his time in the NFL, after being drafted out of Liberty University.

Miami has battled injuries in training camp, with first-team players Ryan Tannehill and Jay Ajayi both sidelined. Tannehill is expected to miss plenty of time, while Ajayi could be back in action next week. Ajayi is currently in the NFL's concussion protocol program and was unable to participate in this game.

The Dolphins will take on the Baltimore Ravens next Thursday and the game will once again take place at Hard Rock Stadium.
