Dolphins WR Armon Binns Out for Season

Armon Bins tore his ACL Sunday, receiving corps join offensive line in line-up shuffle

Miami Dolphins WR Armon Binns will miss the season, shaking up the Dolphins' receiving corps a week into training camp.

The Miami Herald reported Sunday that Binns tore his ACL and MCL during Sunday's practice. He fell to the ground during one-on-one drills, and an MRI later revealed the tears.

A third-year receiver out of Cincinnati, Binns joined the Dolphins midway through the 2012 season after being cut by the Cincinnati Bengals. He caught 6 passes for 67 yards in Miami, giving him 24 catches for 277 yards on the season.

Binns was expected to be Miami's fourth receiver, and had been getting snaps with the first team in practice.

He was not the only receiver to get hurt on Sunday. Rishard Matthews will miss several weeks after an undisclosed injury. He was considered a strong candidate for the fifth of five roster spots.

The remaining receivers in camp competing for the remaining three receiver spots (behind Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, and Brandon Gibson) are Marvin McNutt, Jeff Fuller, Brian Tyms, Chad Bumphis, Kenny Stafford, Jasper Collins, and Andrell Smith.

The Dolphins are also experiencing some injury-related reshuffling on the offensive line after right guard John Jerry hurt his knee last week. After experimenting with multiple alignments on the interior line, the team seemed to settle with second-year center Mike Pouncey in Jerry's place, with second-year lineman Josh Samuda at center.

Pouncey played right guard for three seasons at the University of Florida, switching to center his senior year (replacing his twin brother Maurkice, who declared for the NFL draft after his junior year). The Dolphins signed Samuda as an undrafted free agent last year.

The Dolphins will make their preseason debut Sunday night when they take on the Dallas Cowboys in the annual Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.
