Don King Delivers His Christmas Turkeys

Don King delivered thousands of turkeys on Thursday

Don King played Santa on Thursday, delivering thousands of turkeys to South Floridians who waited in line to get a Christmas treat.

"It's giving me something I don't have, and I'm in need for it. Not only just me, but everyone out here is in need." said Dorothy Clay from Deerfield Beach.

Clay said the turkey will really help make the holiday special.

"This is the first year I feel I'm going to have a Christmas," she said.

A truckload of almost 3,000 Butterball turkeys were being given to people in West Palm Beach, Doral, North Miami, and Deerfield Beach. King was set to start the giveaway in Deerfield Beach last week, but the truck full of birds never showed up. Still unsure of what happened to the turkeys, the South Florida resident sent a letter to Costco asking for more new, fresh turkeys to hand out.

"Everyone should do this," King had told NBC Miami.

For an hour, King handed birds to the needy with champion boxer Tavoris Cloud.

King said there was a chance they could run out of turkeys with the need being so great. People started lining up hours before the gate opened.

A few dozen people went without but most left with a meal in hand.

"It's a good feeling. This adds up a lot. I'm going to have my sister bake it," Sidney Brown said.
