Doral Cop Shooting Suspect Charged in Separate Violent Robbery

Kionne Bell ordered held without bond while second suspect in officer's shooting remains at large

The man charged with shooting an off-duty Doral police officer during an armed robbery was ordered held without bond Thursday, while he's also facing charges in a separate violent robbery.

Kionne Bell, 22, is charged with attempted second-degree murder, armed robbery, aggravated battery on a person 65 or older and armed burglary in the Tuesday night shooting of Lt. Gary King.

Police say King, 70, was ambushed along with his wife in the driveway of their Palmetto Bay home. King and his wife were followed home by Bell and a second suspect, officials said.

During the robbery, there was a struggle and King was shot in the arm. He was hospitalized in stable condition, while his wife suffered minor injuries.

Police announced Thursday that King was released from the hospital.

Bell was arrested Wednesday in the area of Southwest 186 Street and Southwest 112 Avenue. The second suspect remains at large, police said.

At a hearing Thursday morning, Bell was ordered held without bond. He was also appointed a public defender.

According to police, Bell is also facing charges in a violent armed robbery outside a home on Southwest 117 Court back on Jan. 9. According to an arrest affidavit read in court, a person was attacked while retrieving their garbage containers around 12:30 a.m. The victim sustained severe injuries and had to be hospitalized.

Bell is charged with armed robbery, aggravated battery and aggravated battery on a person 65 or older in the earlier case.

Records show Bell was arrested in April 2016 on an attempted murder charge but the charge appears to have been dropped. He was also arrested on burglary charges in January 2016 but those charges also appear to have been dropped. He was given probation following an April 2016 burglary arrest, records showed.
