Double Homicide of Elderly Couple in Hallandale Beach: Police

A neighbor found the couple in their early 70s in their home on Thursday

Police said they are investigating the double homicide of an elderly couple in their early 70s in Hallandale Beach.

The couple was supposed to meet neighbors for lunch Wednesday and never showed up, police said.

"Today they still didn't hear from them either, so they had a key, they went into check the apartment and found the two persons dead inside the apartment," Capt. Sonia Quinones said of the neighbor who went into the couple's home, at Venetian Park West at 926 NE 25th Ave.

Police said they responded at about 6:30 p.m. to the townhome community off Hallandale Beach Boulevard, inside the popular Three Islands neighborhood.

The man and woman are from Canada and come to Florida for the winter, neighbors said. Police haven't released their names.

Longtime resident Mark Gross said the neighborhood usually doesn't have security problems.

"You can go out of your door at 2 o'clock in the morning, you got no problems," he said. "We got security, we got police come through here all the time."
