While Miami rang in the New Year with a big orange, Key West did it in their own unique way – complete with a drag queen in a super-sized red high heel shoe.
Thousands took over the city’s legendary Duval Street on Sunday night as the clock approached midnight, celebrating in front of the famous Bourbon St. Pub as female impersonator “Sushi” led the night of festivities before being lowered onto the balcony as 2018 arrived.
Others celebrated at locations across the city, including a gigantic conch shell being lowered to the roof of Sloppy Joe’s to go with a replica Key lime wedge into a large Margarita glass in front of the Ocean Key Resort among others.
While it wasn’t the freezing temperatures and below zero wind chills in Times Square, those in the Keys did need a light jacket with temperatures dipping just below 70 degrees – nearly 60 degrees higher than what those in New York City were dealing with.
