Police arrested the driver of a day care van after a three-year-old boy was found dead inside the sweltering vehicle Monday.
Deborah St. Charles, 51, was charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child Thursday.
Myles Hill died Monday after he was left in the van for nearly 12 hours, police said. During a simulation conducted by police Wednesday, it was revealed that temperatures reached 144 degrees at one point during the time frame Myles would have been inside the vehicle.
Orlando police Chief John Mina said Myles was supposed to have been dropped off Monday morning at another day care center but instead he was taken to the location where his body was later found.
The driver admitted to "not doing a head count," police said. The DCF report says St. Charles failed to conduct a sweep of the van after dropping off the children and day care staff failed to perform a secondary sweep.
According to the arrest affidavit, St. Charles was negligent and disregarded the safety of the children she is responsible for transporting. St. Charles was being held on $30,000 bail. Jail records didn't list an attorney.
The Florida Department of Children and Families issued an emergency suspension order for Little Miracles Academy.
