Driver Arrested in Aventura Road Rage Incident: Police

A Miami man was arrested Thursday in a road rage incident in Aventura that left another man critically injured.

Zohar Arie Yaron, 58, was charged in the Jan. 14 incident in the area of Northeast 182nd Street and Biscayne Boulevard, when someone cut the other off.

Officials said the victim, 23-year-old Ran Gabay, got out of his car and started arguing with Yaron. According to a witness, Yaron accelerated and struck Gabay with his vehicle.

Yaron kept accelerating and Gabay rolled off the front hood of the car and fell to the ground, the arrest report said. Yaron then drove over his head.

"Oh my God," Judge Renatha S. Francis said in response during Yaron's Friday bond court hearing.

Gabay is currently at the hospital in critical condition and suffered brain hemorrhaging, and skull and facial fractures. Gabay had been on the way to the beach with his girlfriend and friend.

Yaron sped away southbound on Biscayne Boulevard. Surveillance cameras captured photos of the car.

“Road rage is extremely dangerous and this is just one of many examples you can see every day in our county and in our state and it’s just not worth it," said Aventura police Sgt. Chris Goranitis.

Prosecutors said Yaron fled the scene and failed to contact police because he was scared.

He faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash with serious injuries and reckless driving. He remains booked in jail on $7,500 bond.
